I returned to Marobala, my birthplace, with little time to write and plenty of time to live. Old friendships resurfaced, my ninety year old mother opened windows into her past, and ordinary moments revealed something I had almost forgotten: sometimes going home is not about returning to a place, but remembering the people who helped shape who we became.
